Overview
What is a Retail Visual Merchandising and Branding Audit?
A visual merchandising audit is a walkthrough a district manager, franchise consultant, or owner runs to check a store against the brand's own visual and service standards, not a government code. It scores the storefront, entry, sales floor, checkout, and staff presentation zone by zone, so one store can be compared to another on the same scale. For a multi-location retailer or franchise, the audit is how a brand stays consistent from one door to the next. Correct signage, planogram compliance (the store's approved layout for where products go), current promotions, and staff presentation are what a customer actually judges before they judge the product.
This template covers 30 checkpoints across five scored zones (exterior, entry, sales floor, point of sale, and staff presentation), plus an audit-details section and a sign-off section, for seven sections total. Two items are flagged critical: correct, current signage and planogram compliance. A Fail on either drops the visit to Below Brand Standard regardless of the composite score. It's built for a district or regional manager to run in 8 to 15 minutes per store, with photo capture at each zone. It does not cover opening/closing security, cash handling, or fire and safety compliance; those live in separate FieldSpect templates.
